Investigators hope to know later today what caused the wall of a downtown Cedar Falls building to collapse over the weekend. Emergency crews were called to the Oddfellows Building around 10:30 Friday night on the report of a gas leak. Upon arrival, they discovered a large portion of the building’s exterior wall collapsed and severed a gas meter.

Officials evacuated the building and surrounding area. The Oddfellows Building houses the Pump Haus Pub and Grill, which was filled to near-capacity when the bricks tumbled to the ground. The debris fell from the rear of the building, blocking the bar’s back entrance. Bar owner Bruce Petersen says it’s a miracle no one was injured. Officials are trying to determine what caused the wall to fall.
