With NCAA meets headed for Des Moines the Drake Relays may see an increase in the number of college teams that take part. Drake Stadium hosts the NCAA Midwest Regional meet this year and in 2008 will host the NCAA Track and Field Championships. Relays director Brian Brown says the events may help lure more teams to the annual event.

Brown says there are a lot of Texas schools in the region and many other schools that don’t always attend the Drake Relays. Brown says once they see the facilities at Drake, they will be hard pressed not to come back.

Brown says may teams may want to use the Drake Relays as a way to prepare for NCAA competition. He says a lot of coaches want any edge they can get, so he anticipates some coaches bringing their teams to Drake to see what it’s like to run in Des Moines.

Brown says some new teams could be part of this month’s Drake Relays. He says the Georgia, Baylor and UTEP’s will continue to come as well as the others that traditionally come, and he says it will continue to be a great track meet. The Drake Relays are April 25th through the 28th.
