It is expected to be a frigid weekend of baseball in Iowa City when the Iowa Hawkeyes host Penn State in a four-game Big Ten series. Because of the weather Friday’s series opener has been moved from night to a three o’clock start.

Iowa coach Jack Dahm says the biggest thing when it’s cold out is to keep your concentration and not worry about how cold it is. Dahm says they can’t control the weather, but they can control their concentration.

Dahm says cold weather tends to benefit pitchers. He says it becomes more of a pitching and defensive game in the cold. Dahm says the cold weather can have an adverse effect on fielding as he says baseball is one of the only sports where you handle the ball defensively. He says the way you handle the ball can have a big impact in cold weather games. Iowa is 1-3 in the Big Ten after last week’s series at Ohio State.
