If pitching is a major factor then the Luther College baseball team should stay in the Iowa Conference title hunt the entire season. Coach Brian Gillogly has a deep and experienced pitchingf staff and the Norse are 10-5 overall and 3-1 in league play heading into Friday’s matchup with Cornell.

He says they have two freshmen who have returned and are pitching well this year to go along with a junior college transfer and some freshmen. Luther’s earned run average is just under three and opponents are only hitting .243. Gillogly says you want to be below 4.0 in team ERA and hover around .240 and .250 in batting average, and so far they’re doing that.

Gilliogly says pitching is even more important this season with an expanded conference schedule as they play everyone three times. He says they knew they had to get more depth and they now have seven or eight guys they feel are capable of winning ballgames.
