Authorities are investigating the death of a person found in a burned house in Osage. A Mitchell County Home Health worker was making a call to the house at 310 Vine Street just before 11 o’clock Thursday morning and discovered evidence of fire and contacted emergency responders.

The worker reported seeing what looked like soot and ashes on the windows and doors. Firefighters responded to the scene, broke in the front door, and found the body inside the home. Authorities are not releasing any information on the person pending notification of the next of kin.

Officials say an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The Osage Police and Fire Departments as well as the Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire.
