Gold is back in at Iowa State. The Cyclone football team will sport gold pants for the upcoming season, replacing the red pants ISU wore for several seasons. Cyclone coach Gene Chizik thought of the change after visiting with his former boss Texas coach Mack Brown.

Chizik says ISU used gold pants during Brown’s tenure and he thought it would be a good change for 2007. Chizek says the jerseys won’t change for the upcoming season. He says for 2007 it would accentuate the school colors a little more.

There will be a complete uniform change in 2008 and Athletic Director Jamie Pollard says they will seek the input of Cyclone fans. He says they’ll have a link on their website Cyclones.com to download a form on what to submits. Pollard says they’ll then work with the uniform provider to come up with some examples that the fans can vote on.

Pollard says they hope to have the process completed in August. He says they’re announcing the plan now because it takes about a year to order new uniforms, and the same thing as they look to redesigning the football helmets.

Pollard says it is likely that navy blue trim which appears on the helmet will be gone as of 2008. He says the navy was introduced at the request of retailers who wanted another color to offer. Pollard says at the end of the day the true colors are cardinal and gold.
