More than 200 employees at Fairfield’s largest manufacturer are on strike today. Members of the Machinists’ Union from Dexter-Apache Holdings took to the picket lines after they voted Saturday not to proceed with a contract offered to them earlier in the day.

Ed Miller, a union representative, explains they felt if they felt if they accepted the company’s pay proposal it would be "a step back in time." He says they didn’t want to move in that direction at that time. The union says the workers aren’t looking for major changes, as they reached tentative agreement on all areas of the contract except insurance and wages.
