The pitching depth on the Morningside baseball team will be severely tested this weekend. The Mustangs are getting set for a six game Great Plains Conference road test.

Morningside coach Jim Sholten says they have three conference doubleheaders in a four-day span, so he says they’ll need six good starting pitchers and a corps of relievers. Sholten says one of the keys will be keeping the bullpen fresh and that will require solid starting pitching.

He says they fortunately have two top starters that give six or seven innings each time out and have a durable closer that helps. Sholten says this will be a key stretch for the Mustangs’ in the conference race. They are currently tied for fourth and he says things are so balanced that whoever plays the best down the stretch will have the best opportunity.

Morningside visits Concordia and Sioux Falls on Saturday and Sunday. The trip concludes next Tuesday at Dordt.
