The William Penn softball team remains 21st in the latest NAIA rankings. The Lady Statesmen have won their last 15 straight games and lead the Midwest Classic Conference race with a record of 12-0.

Penn coach Mike Christner says their pitchers started out slow and have come on as they got into the season. The Lady Statesmen have been scoring runs in bunches. During their winning streak they are averaging just over seven runs per game. He says they have a lot of pop in the lineup and are probably the best hitting team he has had.

Earlier this week Christner became the school’s all-time winningest coach when he picked up win number 228. He reached that level in only his sixth season at the helm. Christner says he’s been blessed with great players and that’s what the record shows.

Christner says it is also a reflection of the support the program has received from the administration. He says the field and batting cages have been redone and that shows the support they get. The Lady Statesmen put their winning streak on the line Friday when they host second place Waldorf in a doubleheader.
