The Month of April has been a good one for the Grand View College baseball team. The Vikings stood 6-14 at the end of March but since that point have won 14 of 16 games to put themselves in the hunt in the Midwest Classic Conference race.

Grand View coach Lou Yacanich says they lost six in a row in Florida and then lost their conference opener. Yacnich says his son who is the pitching coach started calling pitches and they started focusing on their hitting, and that seem to turn it around.

At 14-6, The Vikings are tied for first in the league race with Viterbo and St. Ambrose. Mount Mercy is a half game back. Yacanich says the conference is strong and they have two games at home and then a road set as they head into the final games of the conference season.

This is the right time to be playing well. The top two teams in the league race do not play in the conference tournament and will advance to NAIA regional action. Yacanich says that’s what you play for and that’s why you play so many games early with the hope of peaking by the time the conference games start.
