Drake Relays director Brian Brown wants to see the high jump record eclipsed this weekend even though he owns the mark. Brown set the current mark of seven feet seven inches back in 1997 and believes he has assembled a field that can set a new record.

Brown says if the record comes down, it’s a reflection of the Drake Relays, which he says is know for excellence. Brown says if the record falls, he’s done a fair job of putting excellence on the track. Brown says he hopes the record is broken during his tenure.

Four members of the field have jumped seven-seven or higher. One of the competitors, Jesse Williams from Los Angeles can jump that high even though he’s only six foot tall. There’s also a six-fout-eight high jumper. That is one of 20 records that Brown says could be set this weekend.
