Officials say two middle-aged Keokuk residents who were found dead in a Keokuk home on Friday both died of natural causes. Keokuk Police Chief Tom Crew says there’s no evidence of foul play.

"Both of them were in very poor physical shape and we suspect one of them had passed away. The other one realized a short time later (their friend) had passed away and then they were even worse physical condition and died of a heart attack type situation associated with kind of the panic of the one individual not waking up," Crew says.

Fifty-nine-year-old Diana Moe lived in the home and her boyfriend, 53-year-old Rodney Laymon, was a frequent visitor. Keokuk police were called Friday evening to do a welfare check on the two. Autopsies were conducted over the weekend.

The police chief says while the preliminary conclusion is the two died of natural cases, a toxicology report is pending. The results of that should come within two to four weeks. Police Chief Crew says it’s a sad situation. "Anytime anybody is deceased and found by friends, you know, it is trauma to the individual…It’s just disheartening regardless of what the situation is," he says.
