Oelwein police say a man is now charged in connection with the vandalism done to the town’s veterans memorial. Twenty-eight-year old Brian Mohlis of Oelwein turned himself in at the Oelwein Police Department. Oelwein police contact Mohlis after investigating the vandalism to the War Memorial Monument, and urged him to turn himself in.

Mohlis is being charged with second-degree criminal mischief. The monument was damaged on or about May 19th, as someone had apparently taken a landscaping stone and broke a granite slab that had names of dead veterans who fought in the Korean conflict and other wars. The damages were estimated at three-thosuand dollars.

A two-thousand dollar reward was being offered for the information leading to the arrest of those responsible and that money may go toward repairs, or the purchase of surveillance equipment. A new plaque may be in place by the end of the month.
