ESPN is offering amateur golfers a chance to play on national television and four Iowa courses will host local qualifiers later this month. One of those is Copper Creek Golf Club near Des Moines which will also host the regional qualifier in August.

"ESPN has offered this national golf challenge that they call ‘The Search for America’s Best Twosome’ for the last several years. ESPN recruits 18-hole golf courses nationwide to host local qualifiers and then it moves on to a regional qualifier and culminated this year in the national tournament that will be held at the Paiute Club in Las Vegas in October," says George Volger, general manager of Copper Creek.

The National Golf Challenge is not for the pros. "I like to think of it as the national tournament for the everyday golfer," Volger says. It offers a level of competition most amateur golfers don’t often get, according to Volger.

The tournament, again, is for twosomes and the cost is $60 for each golfer. Money from the event goes for cancer research.

Volger says you can put together any kind of team you want."Teams can be comprised of any gender, any age," he says.

Other Iowa courses that will offer local qualifiers are Crow Valley Golf Club in Davenport, Pebble Creek in LeClaire and Cedar Valley in Tipton.
