President Bush made a rare trip to the U.S. Capitol today to lunch with GOP senators, hoping to sway votes and revive an immigration reform bill.

Congressman Steve King, a Republican from Kiron, is a critic of the president’s approach, which King labels "amnesty" for illegal immigrants. "Does the president have enough leverage over on the senate side to move a single senate vote? There are those that speculate and think that on this issue, he does not," King says. "I don’t know. We’ll find out here in a day or two, I imagine."

King says he has received "hundreds and hundreds" of email, faxes and phone calls from his constituents on this issue. "I don’t have any that say, ‘We want to grant a path to citizenship or a measure of amnesty,’" King says. "It’s universal in its support for (enforcing) the law."

The U.S. Senate debated immigration reform last week, but failed to come to a conclusion — essentially tabling the bill.
