Iowans who are hunting for jobs in most of the state’s larger cities ought to have good luck finding jobs this summer, according to the latest quarterly Manpower survey.
Mike Lynch, a spokesman for the employment agency, says a survey of Iowa employers shows July, August and September should be strong hiring months. Lynch says overall, Iowa is looking at a "pretty decent" third quarter.
Of the Iowa employers who were polled, 33 percent plan to increase staff while only four percent plan to decrease staff, on average. He says employers surveyed in most cities in Iowa were planning to add to their ranks. The hotspots include Marshalltown, the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, Des Moines and Ottumwa, while a few cities look somewhat "weak" for hiring — Mason City, Muscatine and Burlington.
With the start of summer next week, he says many businesses in Iowa often bring in temporary full-time workers. Lynch says the third quarter is generally a strong one before moving into the holiday season, so the results are in line with expectations.
For the coming quarter, job prospects appear best in construction, durable and non-durable goods manufacturing, transportation/public utilities, finance/insurance/real estate, education and public administration. Employers in wholesale/retail trade and services voice mixed hiring intentions.
