Bob Vander Plaats wrote a book centered on his family’s experience with their severely disabled son, Lucas. The book is entitled "Light from Lucas" and was published by Focus on the Family.
Focus on the Family publishes a magazine, too, and the July issue has a picture of Bob Vander Plaats, his wife, Darla, and their son, Lucas on the cover. There’s an article in the magazine about the family and the book.
Lucas turned 14 this past week.
Since the age of six, Lucas Vander Plaats has lived in a facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, that specializes in caring for people like Lucas who have severe disabilities. The rest of the Vander Plaats family lives in Sioux City.
