A 34-year-old Davenport native died Friday in Iraq.

Private First Class Michael Pittman, a member of the Army Cavalry, was killed when the humvee he was riding in was ambushed by a “complex” bomb, according to his wife. The incident happened in Baghdad.

Pittman was born in Davenport. He went to high school in Rock Island and enlisted in the Army in 2005. His unit was based in Kansas, where his wife now lives with the couple’s four children.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at Fort Riley. The family plans to hold a service in the Quad Cities, too, but details of that service aren’t yet final.

Pittman’s parents are pastors of a church in Moline, Illinois.
