Wright County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a stand-off Monday after trying to serve mental health commitment papers on an unidentified man in Dows.

The individual allegedly refused to submit to the order, brandishing a gun toward the deputies and barricading himself in the house. After several hours of attempted negotiation, members of the North Central Iowa Tactical Unit were unable to convince the man to come out.

Officers entered the house and the man allegedly fired shots at them. He was injured in the process, detained and taken to a Des Moines hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The Iowa DCI is investigating. The Wright County Sheriff is considering criminal charges.
