The Lee County Sheriff in southeast Iowa is asking for the public’s help in finding someone who has been putting explosives in mailboxes. The Lee County Sheriff’s Department is working with the State Fire Marshal’s Office to try and find the person who it is believed began by placing fireworks in mailboxes in the southern part of the county in early June.

It is believed the person or persons advanced to bombs made with a piece of galvanized pipe and a fuse. A Sheriff’s Department investigator says that’s all the information they want to release at this time, but are asking residents to report any suspicious activity. The Lee County Sheriff also says you should not handle any suspicious items found in mailboxes — but instead call the sheriff’s office at 319-524-1414.
