Iowa assistant wrestling coach Doug Schwab will represent the United States at the World Championships after winning the U.S. team trials earlier this month. The Osage native was seeded sixth at 145 and-a-half pounds and had to knock off the top three seeds, including current U.S. National champion Chris Bono to advance.

Schwab says it’s something he says been working for since he got done with college and got into the international scene. He says it’s the first time he’s gotten the break he needed and had a good tournament to make the team.

The World Championships will be held in September and Schwab is expecting to compete in a hostile environment, as the event is being held north of Iran. Schwab won an NCAA title in 1999 while competing for the Hawks and now hopes to add a world title to his resume. He says he has three months of training to prepare to take on the world.
