A Des Moines man was shot and killed early today in a slaying capitol city police say may have been drug-related. Police spokesman Sergeant Todd Dykstra identifies the victim as 35-year-old Michael Collins.

Dykstra says about 12:30 this morning, dispatchers got a call about a shooting. Officers arrived and found Collins’ body in the grass near the intersection of 7th and Franklin. He was suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital where he died. Dykstra says no arrests have been made.

Dykstra says "The investigation indicates narcotic activity may possibly have been involved." Investigators are talking with witnesses and have not yet identified a suspect.
