Grand View College has named Mike Woodley it’s first football coach. Woodley has been in coaching for just over 30-years and was an assistant at Iowa State under Dan McCarney and at one time was the head coach at St. Ambrose. Woodley has been a high school coach in the Houston area the past four years and says Grand View AD Troy Plummer is the reason he has a new job.

Woodley says his son played baseball with Plummer. Plummer called asking Woodley for some advice on coaches, and Woodley says before he knew it, he wanted the job "real bad."

Starting a program from scratch is a new challenge for Woodley who says the first priority is to find players. He says they’ll have the advantage with a new program in telling the kids they’re going to get a chance to play. The school will begin play in 2008 and Woodley plans on jumping right in with a varsity schedule.

Woodley says they hope to get some of the kids on campus to play, recruit some junior college and high school players. Woodley says he wants to get going right away as they will be going into a conference in the next year.
