A University of Northern Iowa graduate will soon be involved in maintaining foreign relations overseas.

Nancy Powell has been named the U.S. Ambassador to Nepal and will begin her position in August. She’s tentatively set to be sworn in July 16th. The U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination on June 28th. This isn’t the first time Powell has served as a U.S. Ambassador.

Earlier in her career, the Le Mars native served as the U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Ghana and Uganda. She’ll replace James Moriarty, who departs in July after serving as U.S. Ambassador to Nepal for three years.
