A Waucoma man with a long string of legal problems has been sentenced to 30 years in prison on drug and gun charges. Thirty-seven-year-old Dale Lucas has been convicted by a jury of attempting to manufacture methamphetamine after having a prior drug conviction, possession of a firearm conviction, and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

On December 2nd of 2003, Lucas was involved in a high speed chase with Waukon police. After a tire blew out, Lucas fled on foot into a wooded area south of Waukon. He escaped by jumping off a 30-foot bluff. Officers found a loaded handgun near Lucas’ car, and a meth lab in his trunk. Lucas was arrested a few days later in nearby Crawford, Wisconsin. He was then charged with possession of anhydrous ammonia with intent to manufacture meth.

Lucas had a previous conviction in Winneshiek County of possession of ingredients to make meth and was convicted in Wisconsin on similar charges. Lucas was sentenced in Federal Court to 360 months in prison which will run consecutive to a sentence he received in Wisconsin.
