The junior pitcher and third baseman was nine-of-13 at the plate with six RBIs, three doubles and scored six times. In a victory over Wapsie Valley, Smelser was four-for-five with four RBIs, two doubles a stolen base and scored a couple of runs. He also earned the victory on the mound by tossing a five inning no-hitter and struck out nine batters.
