Two children from northeast Iowa were killed, three other people were hurt, in an S-U-V rollover crash at midday Sunday on Interstate 80 near Newton. Everyone in the crash was from Edgewood, Iowa. Witnesses tell state troopers the driver of the westbound Ford Explorer was trying to pass a semi and realized she hadn’t cleared another vehicle, swerved, went onto the shoulder and overcorrected.

The SUV went into the median, rolled several times and went into the eastbound lanes, coming to rest in the ditch. Two children, who were not wearing seatbelts, were thrown out of the SUV and killed: ten-year-old Aarron Arthur Kimball and 13-year-old Andrea Bockenstedt.

The driver, 32-year-old Lisa Kimball, was listed in critical condition at a Des Moines hospital. Her husband, 35-year-old Darryl Kimball, and 13-year-old daughter Ashley, were treated and released. The wreck closed parts of the interstate for up to three hours.
