A tinder-dry northwest Iowa county is taking precautions against fire outbreaks.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office, after a request from authorities in O’Brien County, has issued a burn ban.

Officials say there’s been extremely dry weather in the area. According to the order from the State Fire Marshall, opening burning in O’Brien County would constitute a danger to life and property.

Those caught violating the order would be charged with a simple misdemeanor.
