An auditor’s report says a consultant, hired by an Iowa agency to find cost savings, has been paid more money than the state has saved. State Auditor David Vaudt says A.T. Kearney, Inc. was paid 3.7 million dollars to assist the Iowa Department of Administrative Services with a spending review.

The DAS projected the first year savings at 10.5 million dollars…more than enough to pay for the consultant. However, Vaudt’s review found the potential savings at only 2.9 million dollars.

Vaudt says the DAS is expecting additional savings in the coming years, but should still reconsider it’s contract with A.T. Kearney. "We need to make sure that we’re achieving what we decided to do in entering into this agreement," Vaudt says of the deal.

A.T. Kearney has offices in seven U.S. cities, and dozens more offices around the world. Vaudt’s complete report is available at auditor.iowa.gov .
