Republican presidential hopeful Sam Brownback isn’t backing down from his attacks on the pro-life credentials of rivals Mitt Romney and Tom Tancredo.

Both have asked Brownback to apologize and stop leaving telephone messages for Iowa Republicans alleging Romney and Tancredo have ties to abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

"They are truthful statements, the Romney family giving to Planned Parenthood when now saying they’re adamantly pro-life and the receipt of resources by the Tancredo camp from somebody that’s been a staunch funder for Planned Parenthood," Brownback said.

Brownback, a Kansas Senator, met Wednesday with a small group of supporters at the Ames office of Birthright, an organization which helps women bring unplanned pregnancies to term.

"I was one of the leaders in the partial birth abortion fight. I helped carry the nomination of both (Supreme Court Justices) Roberts and Alito through the Judiciary Committee in the U.S. Senate," Brownback said. "I’ve carried the fight to stop the expansion of experimentation on human embryos."

Brownback plans to campaign in Ottumwa, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids Thursday.
