An Iowa National Guard facility in northeast Iowa is getting a facelift. The guard’s Readiness Center and Army Aviation Support Facility in Waterloo was built in 1973. Now the facility will be remodeled as two separate projects. The Readiness Center will nearly double in size to make room for office space, classrooms, and storage.

The pricetag on that project is 2.5 million dollars and will be evenly split between federal and state funding. The 9 million dollar upgrade to the Aviation facility will be 100-percent federally funded. That will include the addition of a new hanger and shop areas. Construction is expected to take up to two years.
