Jenny Hood singled in the eventual game winner in the top of the sixth as West Delaware edged ADM 2-1 for the class 3A championship. Hawks pitcher Katie Murphy tossed a five-hitter and kept the ADM hitters off balance. Hawks coach Kevin Schuchman who says they needed a big game from their seniors, because this was their last shot to play high school softball. Schuchman says they came through with a great effort.


Four years later Solon is a state champion, again. The top ranked Spartans scored three runs in the first and rolled to a 6-0 victory over number-two Akron-Westfield in the 2A title game. Senior shortstop Jenny Schuelke was an eighth grader on Solon’s first title team. She says the first time they didn’t really realize what it was, but this one "feels really good." Schuelke says the quick start was a big confidence boost.Akron-Westfield was bidding for a third consecutive title.

Ashlee Simon set a class 1A tournament record with 16 strikeouts as sixth ranked Highland won its first state title with a 4-2 victory over number three New London. Simon says she felt good in warmups and knew she could do well in the game and did. TheHuskies closed the season by winning 15 of their last 16 games.

In Class 4A, Kate Patterson hit a home run in the third inning, and that was the only run of the game as West Des Moines Valley downed Pleasant Valley for the title. Pleasant Valley got the tying run on base in the seventh inning, but couldn’t bring it home.Valley finished the season with a 52-3 record, the most wins in school history.. Pleasant Valley finished at 31-15.
