A string of heavy rains has many Iowans manning the pumps while keeping an eye to the sky. In northwest Iowa, Emmet County emergency management director Terry Reekers has been busy. He says they’re closely monitoring several situations, including Highway 4 near Estherville, where the water has come up close to the roadway. Reekers says there’s been some sandbagging in residential areas. So far, residents of the county have avoided major problems with wet basements.

Reeker says they’ve been able to keep up with sumps pumps, but he says if the power were to go out for any length of time, they’ll have problems. Reekers says the rain has been coming down in buckets. He say the total from Saturday ranges from six to 10 inches. Emmet County residents are once again looking to the skies, but with a whole different line of thought.

Reeker says: "The ground is very saturated now. Six weeks ago we were praying for rain, now, we’re just hoping it will stop. Reeker says the forecast doesn’t look to bring any relief in the next couple of days. Emmet County is one of several that remain under a flash flood warning.
