Strong thunderstorms dumped more heavy rain on parts of Iowa overnight, with Cherokee County getting some of the worst of it. There’s widespread flooding and many roads are closed. Cherokee got about five inches of rain while parts of the surrounding county got six inches of rain within three hours.

Power is out to three-quarters of the city after wires supporting work on a water tower came down on power lines. Basements in some homes are flooded with water coming through windows. The fire department is offering the use of big pumps for homes that need them. Authorities are urging people to stay home until the water recedes.
