Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is set to unveil her health care plan during an event at a Des Moines hospital. It is expected to require that all Americans get health insurance. That is what has occurred in Massachusetts and California, where citizens are required to obtain health care insurance — just as they’re required by law to carry car insurance on their vehicles.

Clinton’s plan reportedly would provide subsidies to low income American who cannot afford insurance premiums. Clinton briefly mentioned her health care plan during her remarks Sunday in Indianola. "There are three things we’ve got to do. Number one: we’ve got to get costs down for everybody. Number two: we’ve got to get quality up for everybody and number three: we’ve got to cover every single person," Clinton said.

Clinton argued health care reform is essential to the country. "I know how hard it is. I’ve been up against these people. I understand that the special interests don’t want change. They’re willing to just keep driving us further and further into the ditch with more uninsured and higher costs," Clinton said. "Well, I’ll tell you, we’re going to take ’em on this time and when I’m president, we’re going to get it done. We’re going to have universal health care."

Clinton is going to recommend new restrictions on insurance companies, such as forbidding "cherry-picking" — when insurers cover only the healthy and refuse insurance policies to those who have pre-existing conditions.
