What’s billed as the "Green Bike Tour" takes off for its sixth year today in northeast Iowa. Kristi Lohmeier of the Iowa Policy Project says the tour in the past has been used for a general discussion of global warming issues, but this year they’re focusing specifically on renewable energy.

Lohmeier says so many people are talking about renewable energy that they wanted to use it as a platform to highlight and area of the state that is doing a lot of work around renewable energy, and energy efficiency. Lohmeier says it will be just one day this year.

The tour begins this morning at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, moves to U-N-I and winds up at Wartburg College in Waverly. She’s not sure how changing the format of the tour will impact participation.

Lohmeier says they hope to have around 25 to 30 riders. For more information, go to the tour’s website .
