The FBI has released a report showing over 100,000 arrests were made in Iowa last year for a variety of crimes. The FBI data shows there were over 8,000 violent crimes reported in Iowa in 2006, including 55 murders.

There were almost 1,300 robberies in Iowa in 2006 — that’s when the thief shows a weapon — and another 83,000 burglaries reported. Over 800 Iowans reported being raped and just over 5,000 Iowans reported having their cars stolen last year.

A spokeswoman for the Iowa Department of Public Safety says there’s so much data in the FBI report it will take her agency a week or more to analyze it and issue a statement. The nation’s violence crime rate rose from 2005 to 2006 by almost two percent.
