The stuffed wolverine mascot that was recently taken from a trophy case at Sioux City West High School will be replaced. Four West High girls have been arrested and now face felony charges in the case, and now the former Sioux City resident who donated the first stuffed wolverine in the early 1970’s will donate a new one.

Patrick Alvarez says he’ll be picky in selecting the right wolverine, as he wants one with the right markings and size. Alvarez says he’s not worried about being able to find an animal. Alvarez says there are not a lot of wolverines in the lower 48, but he says there are adequate numbers in Alaska, and they’re classified as a big game animal and a fur-bearing animal. It could be a year before the new wolverine is found, stuffed and sent to Sioux City.
