Zenn car A central Iowa auto dealer is offering a new vehicle that never requires a trip to the gas pump. AmesCars.com is the exclusive Iowa dealer of the new Zenn electric car.

It’s a three-door hatchback with two seats and 13 cubic feet of storage. AmesCars.com co-owner Thomas Gleisner says the Zenn is not meant for the interstate.

Gleisner says federal regulations limit the Zenn’s speed to 25 miles per hour. The car charges through a standard 120 volt outlet. It can run for about eight hours on a full charge. AmesCars.com is selling the Zenn for around $14,500.

Gleisner says the price ranges from $13,000 to $16,000, depending on available features. AmesCars.com has only been selling the Zenn for about two months, but has made three sales.

"We sold one to a gentleman in Iowa City," Gleisner says. "He commutes back and forth to his job at the University of Iowa. He commutes all week long, and plugs his car in Friday night, and he absolutely loves it."
