The military is confirming a soldier from western Iowa was killed Friday during combat operations in Iraq.  According to the Army, 23-year-old Sergeant Jospeh Milledge, of Glenwood died, after being struck by an improvised explosive device while conducting door-to-door combat operations in Baghdad.

Milledge is a 2002 graduate of the Glenwood High School. He enlisted in the Army while living in Texas in 2004. He served one tour of combat duty in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 before his unit was stationed in Germany, where he stayed for a year before being redeployed to Kuwait and then again to Iraq.

Milledge, who is survived by his wife Amanda and 14-month old son, of Washington State, was last home on leave in Glenwood in July. His family says memorial services will be held at a later date.
