Police are investigating a series of business break-ins in the Waterloo area, one of which was at a pet store. Officials say whoever broke into Emporium Pets in Waterloo on two separate occasions this week got away with several pets.

Among them were two puppies, a number of snakes, lizards, mice, and a tarantula. Pet care items were also taken during the burglaries on Monday and Tuesday night. Police say a woman walking in a nearby alley Thursday found the missing Italian Greyhound puppies.

The dogs were returned to the store unharmed, but the other animals are still missing. Authorities believe the pet store break-ins may be connected to other burglaries this week an automotive repair shop next door and a restaurant in Cedar Falls.
