Colonel Robert Garrison of the Iowa State Patrol After 32 years with the Iowa State Patrol, Colonel Robert Garrison is retiring to take a position in the state prison system.

Iowa Department of Corrections Director John Baldwin says Robert Garrison has been appointed to the newly created position of Department of Corrections Chief of Security.

The job will involve oversight of security for all nine of the state’s prisons. The 54 year old Garrison is a native of Emmetsburg and has been with the Iowa State Patrol since 1975. He has served as the agency’s chief the past eight years.

Iowa Public Safety Commissioner Gene Meyer says he plans to name a new State Patrol Colonel in mid-December – about the time Garrison will begin his new job.
