Two people were killed in a housefire in Mason City early Monday. Firefighters were called to a duplex in northeastern Mason City at around 12:30 this morning. The names of the victims have not been released, but the fire killed a woman and a female child.

Fire officials say the bodies of the victims were found in the duplex at the back of the building in an upstairs bedroom. The fire department along with City Fire Marshall Mark Christiansen as well as representatives from the state fire marshal’s office were at the scene this morning trying to determine the cause of the fire.

The child was a student at Roosevelt Elementary School, where crisis counselors and guidance personnel are on hand this morning to comfort friends of the victim.
