An international faith-based organization, that’s working to end extreme poverty, brought it’s message to Iowa Monday. Adam Phillips is co-chair of Micah Challenge U.S.A . He spoke with church and community leaders in Des Moines about America’s role in the fight against global poverty.

"We have the ability, the know-how, and the power to make poverty history," Phillips said, "but we sort of lack the will. The church can be a leader in stepping up that effort." Phillips says his organization is pressing presidential candidates to address starvation and disease in the poorest parts of the world.

He says U.S. policies should push an agenda that provides every child with a "fair shot at a quality life." Phillips was accompanied by Fidelis Wainaina during his visit to Des Moines. Wainaina is the founder of a community based program helping vulnerable children in western Kenya. The Micah Challenge organization is based in 40 countries and is named after a verse from Micah 6:8 in the New International Version of the Bible. It reads, "And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."
