The Iowa Department of Transportation will be selling more than 150 vehicles and pieces of equipment at an auction Saturday in Ames. Mike Holl is the the DOT’s equipment disposal manager. He says around 40 cars, 20 vans, and 4 buses will be sold. Holl says the auction will also include around 35 single and tandem axle trucks, a track hoe, mowers, and forklifts.

The DOT typically conducts two vehicle auctions a year. "A lot of our vehicles have over 100,000 miles," Holl says, "and trucks are probably 15 years old when we get rid of them." The auction items can be inspected at the sale site from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. on Friday and from 7 A.M. to 9 A.M. prior to Saturday’s sale. All the vehicles are sold "as is" with no warranties.

Holl says a successful bidder must furnish at least a $200 deposit and then finish purchasing the vehicle within five working days. The auction begins at 9 A.M. Saturday at the intersection of South Fourth Street and Oak Avenue in Ames. A listing of the items included in the auction is available on-line at www.dot.state.ia.us/auction .
