The Drake Bulldogs have lost two in a row but their post-season hopes are still alive heading into this weekend’s game at home against Jacksonville. If Pioneer League leader San Diego wins out and is selected to take part in the FCS national playoffs the league runner-up would take on the Northeast Conference champion in the Gridiron Classic.

The Bulldogs would be that team by winning their last three games. Drake coach Steve Loney says all three of the teams that have less losses or are tied with Drake, have yet to play San Diego. Loney says they need to win and hope San Diego does as well, and take care of business with three straight wins.

Loney says he has learned quickly that because of the makeup of the PFL, home field is huge advantage. He says when you travel as far as you travel, it is very time consuming. Loney says it’s not an excuse, that’s the way it is and home teams have an advantage when you look at win-loss records.

Drake is 5-3 overall.
