A soldier from northwest Iowa who won the Purple Heart two years ago after being wounded during his first tour of duty in Afghanistan was killed there Monday while on patrol in his second tour, though no details were released.

Twenty-six-year-old Sergeant Adrian Hike grew up in Sac City and has family in Ralston. Reports say two eastern Iowa soldiers are being treated for multiple gunshot wounds at a hospital in Germany after a separate weekend attack in Afghanistan.
