The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says two more out-of-state men have been charged with deer hunting violations. The DNR says 35-year-old Joseph Doss from Clemmons, North Carolina pleaded guilty to taking a buck deer on an antlerless deer only license in Monona County near Onawa on November 2nd.
Doss paid $4,200 in fines and turned over $800 in archery equipment after confessing to conservation officers. In the other case, 46-year-old William "Scott" Heidelbaugh of Quarryville, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty to abandonment of a dead or injured deer and to illegally taking possession of a deer in Pottawattamie County.
The DNR says Heidelbaugh, was hunting in Wilson Island State Recreation Area on November 10, when he fired an arrow at a buck, striking it in the hind end. A short while later, Heidelbaugh hit another buck and left the first one in the field. The first buck was discovered dead in the weeds by another hunter who called in a tip to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which contacted the Iowa DNR.
Heidelbaugh was stopped and admitted to shooting two bucks while only having one antlerless deer license. He paid a fine of $5,000. Earlier this week two men from Oklahoma were arrested in southeast Iowa for taking a buck while holding antlerless deer licenses.
