Some early winter weather in western Iowa has already affected holiday travelers. Officials say a 52-mile stretch of Interstate 29 in western Iowa is covered in ice.

A narrow band of snow between Onawa and Council Bluffs has resulted in at least seven cars in the ditch with two semis sliding onto the Interstate median. Iowa DOT crews are out salting and sanding that stretch of I-29.

A snow advisory is in effect until six tonight for central and south-central Iowa, while the advisory runs until midnight for portions of eastern Iowa. The DOT website provides the latest winter weather road conditions.
