The University of Northern Iowa Leadership Skills and Styles class made a presentation this week on a project that is designed to help people show their support for U.S. troops. Josh Wieland coordinated the effort, and says they looked at the things soldiers face, and how others could help.

He says the problems revolved around emotional problems once the soldiers got back, and Wieland says one of the things schools could do is supply counseling for the soldiers and their families. Wieland says other issues they found dealt with soldiers getting the benefits they deserve.

Wieland says veterans sometimes have trouble getting the educational discounts, and he says schools could help by offering reduced fees for veterans and people in the military. Wieland says everyone can do something to help.

Wieland says for the average person, you can let soldiers know you are there for them and are willing to help them out. He says church prayer groups are a another big thing they looked at for support of the soldiers when they are overseas and when they return. The idea for the project came from Gerri Perreault, director, UNI Leadership Studies Program.
